The district consumer disputes redressal commission in Bulandshahr has mandated that Flipkart refund Rs 1,43,335 to a customer. This decision comes after the customer received a counterfeit phone displaying an Apple logo, rather than the iPhone 14 Pro he had ordered. The refund will also include an annual interest of 7%.
The case dates back to May 29, 2023, when Anoopshahr resident Om Prakash Singh ordered an iPhone 14 Pro from the e-com portal and paid Rs 1,43,335 by credit card. I recorded a video while opening the package as evidence and immediately contacted customer care to report the issue,” Singh stated in his complaint filed on Aug 3, 2023. The commission directed the company to take back the phone and refund Rs 1,43,335, with 7% annual interest from the date of filing of the complaint.
Because the iPhone 14 Pro has three rear cameras, whereas the phone I received had only two, “The difference was immediately apparent.
Singh said he recorded a video of the unboxing and immediately contacted Flipkart’s customer care. However, when he opened the package in the presence of the delivery executive, he found a green-coloured Chinese smartphone bearing an Apple logo inside. He also raised a return request, expecting the company to replace the phone or refund the amount. He alleged that the seller rejected his return request and that a company representative later marked the product as damaged without conducting a proper inspection or giving him an opportunity to explain the matter. Despite repeated attempts to seek help through the company’s toll-free number, neither was the phone replaced nor was his money refunded, Singh alleged.
