Apple introduced iOS 27 at WWDC 2026
Apple is preparing to roll out iOS 27, the next major software update for iPhone users. The update was announced at WWDC 2026 and has already gone through developer and public beta testing. Apple has also listed the iPhone models that will support iOS 27, although some of the newer AI features will require more recent hardware. Apple has scheduled a September 9 event where it is expected to release iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and its first foldable phone. Apple is expected to release the stable version of iOS 27 in September 2026. The company has said only that iOS 27 is coming later this year. As mentioned above, Apple introduced iOS 27 at WWDC 2026 on June 8.
The exact release date has not been confirmed by Apple in the information currently available. The update brings a stronger focus on AI, including a more capable Siri, new AI tools for Photos and improvements across the iPhone experience. Similar to previous years, the new iOS update is expected to roll out with new iPhones. The timing follows Apple’s usual pattern of releasing its major iPhone software update around the launch of its new iPhone lineup.
AI is one of the main areas of focus in iOS 27. Apple says iOS 27 will work with compatible iPhones, with the update retaining broad device support. Current reports indicate support going back to the iPhone 11 and iPhone SE (2nd generation). The developer beta became available around the event, followed by the public beta program. The final version is expected to be more stable than the beta builds and will be available as a regular software update for compatible iPhones. Apple is introducing a more capable version of Siri that can understand natural language better and provide more useful assistance. The company is also adding AI-powered features to Photos, including tools for changing and editing images. Apple is also bringing Siri into the Camera experience. The feature can use what the camera is seeing to help users find information about objects and subjects in front of the iPhone.
