The incident occurred on September 3, when a 25-year-old pregnant woman was transported by ambulance. The vehicle became immobilized in a large road crater in Gadhbar village, delaying the response for nearly two hours. This tragic event highlights ongoing concerns regarding infrastructure safety and emergency medical access in the region.
As reported by TOI on Monday, Nidhi went into active labour around 1 am on Sept 3, and her family immediately called an emergency ambulance. However, the journey was cut short when the vehicle got stuck in a massive pothole on the village link road and was completely immobilised, delaying their arrival at CHC Jaitpur until 3:30 am. her newborn baby girl was declared dead in the womb due to the prolonged delay Although doctors managed to save the mother’s life.

A letter has also been written to the PWD department in connection with the matter,” Yadav said. Meanwhile, the PWD executive engineer, Raghavendra Singh Verma, said the road condition was exacerbated by heavy rainfall and loose soil from pipeline installation work under the Jal Jeevan Mission. “Temporary repairs using soil, stones and pebbles have already been completed to restore normal vehicle movement, and a complete bitumen blacktopping of the damaged stretch will be carried out once weather conditions permit,” added Verma.
Chief medical officer Dr Arun Kumar Srivastava has sought a detailed report from Jaitpur Community Health Center (CHC) superintendent Dr Deepak Yadav regarding the incident involving Nidhi Kumari, wife of Pravendra Singh. “A comprehensive inquiry is underway to examine the treatment provided at the CHC, the role of local staff and the ASHA worker, and the circumstances surrounding the ambulance delay. The issue initially came to light when villagers raised the matter during a Samadhan Diwas at Bah Tehsil on Saturday.
