Responding to a question about the mass resignation of employees of the 108 ambulance service, Khader warned that strict action would be taken if the strike affected patient care. “108 ambulance staff are our brothers, but the well-being of patients takes precedence. Khader clarified that the state govt does not directly operate the 108 ambulance service.
A QR code-based system has also been introduced to enable the public to file complaints related to food and medicines, the minister said.
Mangaluru : Food safety raids are under way across Karnataka, while inspections to check the safety of medicines will continue, health minister UT Khader said Monday. Speaking to reporters at Praja Soudha, Khader said complaints had been received about expired medicines, mislabelling and the sale of medicines at exorbitant prices by two or three companies. Since these issues have a direct bearing on public health, they are being taken seriously,” Khader said. He said the Centre must regulate the sale and supply of such medicines and that details of the situation would be submitted to it. We cannot remain silent if their strike jeopardises patient care,” he said. The companies managing the service are responsible for hiring employees, providing uniforms, maintaining hygiene and imparting training, he said. Following the complaints, officials conducted raids and imposed fines. Price control is the responsibility of the Centre. Some medicines do not carry a proper maximum retail price (MRP). “Even if the state does not have a direct role, the Centre must take note of the issue and act. A meeting has been convened to discuss the matter,” he added. “If drivers face any issues, they should negotiate with the company. If they are not paid the salary promised at the time of recruitment, they should bring it to the govt’s notice. We have no objection to employees protesting over such issues.
