Hyderabad: Patancheru MLA Gudem Mahipal Reddy, who crossed over to Congress in July 2024, has officially returned to BRS. The MLA, wearing a black shirt, participated in a protest programme against the ruling Congress by BRS at Gun Park on Monday. The three-time MLA also attended the BRS legislature party meeting at Erravelli farmhouse on Sunday, indicating the pink party accepted him as its own MLA.

Mahipal Reddy, who joined Congress in July 2024 in the presence of CM Revanth Reddy , was unhappy with the grand old party, and started distancing himself from Congress since Jan and commented that he made a mistake by aligning with Congress as he did it for the assembly constituency developmental works. Interestingly, he organised a protest programme on 22-A prohibited properties in his assembly constituency Patancheru on Aug 25 and BRS deputy floor leader T Harish Rao was the chief guest for the programme. Mahipal Reddy is among 10 BRS MLAs, who defected to Congress after winning the 2023 assembly elections on BRS tickets. he joined Congress in the presence of CM Revanth Reddy While some have joined the grand old party in early 2024. He got notices from the assembly speaker on a BRS petition seeking disqualification of the 10 MLAs and the petition against him was dismissed by the speaker in Dec 2025.

Sources said he had some issues with local Congress leaders and there was no support from Congress leadership for releasing funds for his constituency. BRS sources said after observing his activities, including keeping away from Congress, for eight months, BRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao okayed his official return to the BRS fold and got an invitation to attend the BRS legislature party preparatory meeting ahead of assembly sessions on Sunday.
