A 14-year-old boy from Pilibhit district has been arrested for allegedly raping his seven-year-old cousin at her home, according to police reports issued on Monday. The accused is currently a Class VI student at a private school. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, which has raised significant concerns about child safety in the region.
The incident occurred around 3 pm on Sept 4 when she was asleep and her daughter, a student of Class 1, was watching TV with her husband’s elder brother’s son, who lived in an adjacent flat, according to the girl’s mother’s complaint.
The mother said she woke up after hearing her daughter’s screams and found the boy allegedly violating her. The mother said the family could not approach police the same day as their farmhouse was located far from the police station and they had no means of transport. She also said relatives pressured them to resolve the matter within the family instead of approaching police, which further delayed filing of the FIR.
When she tried to catch him, he fled.
SHO Ashok Pal said, “An FIR was registered on Sunday evening under BNS section 65(2), which deals with the punishment for committing rape on a female under 12 years of age, and sections 5(n) and 6 of the Pocso Act, which deal with the punishment for aggravated penetrative sexual assault committed by a person related to or in a domestic relationship with the child.
