The preliminary online round, held in the first week of Sept, saw around 900 students from more than 100 schools participate. Of these, 170 teams, each comprising three students, were shortlisted for the offline contest. After a day of tricky questions, unexpected twists and nail-biting moments, even the finalists could not predict who would emerge on top when the scores were finally announced. When the results were announced, Aarav Hoonur, Suhaas Khandelwal and Veer Goyal of Greenwood High, Bannerghatta, emerged as the winners. Ayaan Rajesh Iyengar, Vivaan Chetan and Mayank G M of Sri Kumaran Public School, Mallasandra, ICSE, secured the second prize, while Sinchana B Vakkund, Ishaan Shivalli and Samarth Sandeep Bhargava of Presidency School, RT Nagar, won the third prize.
Bengaluru: The tension was palpable as six teams waited anxiously for the final results of the inaugural Times NIE Inter-school Critical Thinking Quiz, held at St Joseph’s School Auditorium, Bengaluru, Monday. Powered by Titan Zoop, the quiz was unlike any other. It was not simply about knowing the right answers; participants had to put their thinking caps on, analyse clues, eliminate possibilities and arrive at answers through deduction. With a scoring system that was as challenging as the questions themselves, teams found it almost impossible to anticipate their final scores. The other finalists were Shreyank K Gowda, Jacob Kavin N and Pradyumna R D of Harvest International School Innovation Campus, Attibele; Julian Alexander Hassa, Sai Adhvik G and Sai Chaturvedi of Delhi Public School, Whitefield; and Sukruti Bhat, Kartavya K Sharma and Naman B M of National Public School, Banashankari.
As the students settled down, quiz master Surya Narayanan from Quiz Catalyst set the ball rolling with a written round comprising 25 questions. The 18 finalists were in for surprises from the word go. The competition intensified as only six teams, each comprising three students, made it to the stage for the final round. Their knowledge, quick thinking and critical-thinking abilities were put to the test across six rounds — a multiple-choice round, two traditional passing rounds, a buzzer-based crossword round, a buzzer-based anagram round and a buzzer-based rapid-fire round. Several questions left teams stumped, but the scoring system added another layer of suspense. In a twist, the points awarded for passed questions increased with every pass, making a correct answer even more rewarding — and every decision to pass a calculated risk.
Around 30 audience prizes were given away as well.
