Hubballi: Residents across Hubballi-Dharwad are grappling with severe drinking water shortages, with supply intervals stretching far beyond the Karnataka Urban Infrastructure Development and Finance Corporation’s (KUIDFC) promise of water once every three days.
KUIDFC officials attributed the disruption to a power shutdown on Aug 29 and 30 that affected water supply across the city. Vidya Patil, a resident of Hubballi, said her family spends Rs 800 on tanker water as supply reaches their locality only once a week for two to three hours. HDMC Ward 31 corporator Shankarappa Harijan said RO plants had been installed in Jagadish Nagar and Ram Nagar, where residents had lacked piped water for two decades.
Residents in most HDMC wards said they are receiving water only once every five to seven days, while some areas in Old Hubballi have gone without tap water for up to eight days. The disruption has forced many households to depend on private water tankers, increasing expenses and creating difficulties in managing daily needs. Areas impacted include Murusaviramutt, Tumkuru Oni, Anchatgeri Oni, Dajiban Peth, Nehar Nagar, Panchakashari Nagar, KHB Colony in Amargol, Santosh Nagar and Gamanagatti. With festivals approaching, she urged authorities to provide water at least once every three to four days. Makabool Jamadar of Gousia Nagar alleged that poor-quality drinking water supplied over the past month had caused health concerns. He called for adequate quantities of safe drinking water. He also alleged that the water had an unpleasant smell.

KUIDFC superintending engineer Savita Katigennavar said the two-day power shutdown disrupted supply and added that power cuts, leakages and pipeline damage could further delay distribution. A shutdown planned for Monday has been postponed until next week in view of the Ganesh festival, and water will be supplied as scheduled during the festivities, she said. Download the TOI App.
