Erode: A newlywed suffered 50% burns after illegally stored firecrackers exploded inside

Police said the house owner had illegally stored some firecrackers at the residence

The victim has been identified as K Surya, 28. He got married 10 days ago.

Police said the house owner had illegally stored some firecrackers at the residence, which suddenly ignited and exploded. Fire and police personnel rescued him and admitted him to a private hospital with severe injuries. His wife who was also at home, when the incident took place, escaped unhurt. District collector S Kandasamy and district superintendent of police DV Kiran Shruti inspected the site with fire and police officials.

Erode: A newlywed suffered 50% burns after illegally stored firecrackers exploded inside his family’s house on Nasiyanur GH Road in Erode district on Monday.

Chithode police said the house belongs to Kamaraj , whose family runs a restaurant and a firecracker shop. “Large quantities of high-decibel firecrackers had been stored illegally in the residence,” said an officer. The front portion of the house was also destroyed in the fire.

A case has been registered and further investigation is on.
