JC Road, before and after JC Road, before and after JC Road, before and after JC Road, before and after Bengaluru: Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) and other govt agencies cleared 1,40,277 tonnes of construction and demolition (C&D) waste across Bengaluru in Aug as part of the ‘Freedom from Waste–Just Clean Bengaluru’ campaign, according to GBA data. Launched on Aug 1, the month-long campaign focused on clearing accumulated construction debris, soil, discarded materials and other waste dumped along roadsides, footpaths, vacant sites and other public spaces. GBA had identified 1,54,073 tonnes of C&D waste across the city’s five corporations. Of this, the five corporations together cleared and transported 82,125 tonnes during the campaign.

The state govt has also announced measures to curb fresh dumping of C&D waste. Greater Bengaluru development minister Krishna Byre Gowda said the reclaimed spaces would be protected and used only for public purposes. We will plan as per local needs,” he said. The cleared waste was transported to five designated disposal locations, including dysfunctional quarries, for disposal. “Our first priority is to safeguard the spaces that have been reclaimed after debris clearance.
