Marking Teachers’ Day on Sept 5 and International Literacy Day on Sept 8, chief minister said teachers act as “lamps” that spread the light of knowledge and help guide students towards responsible citizenship. In the letter, Yogi said the purpose of schooling goes beyond reading and writing and should include the development of values, discipline, self-confidence and the understanding needed to make sound decisions. Referring to India’s ancient education traditions, he said Gurukuls functioned as centres of holistic learning where children were taught knowledge along with life values and a sense of responsibility. He said the same spirit should underpin the modern education system, adding that knowledge becomes meaningful when it benefits society and makes life easier. He said artificial intelligence, deep-tech and emerging technologies are creating new opportunities in education, healthcare, agriculture, industry and employment. He cited the proposed AI City in Lucknow and the developing drone and UAV ecosystem in Kanpur as steps towards building Uttar Pradesh’s technological future, and said govt was working to connect traditional knowledge with modern science, technology, innovation and skills. He said these efforts were improving school facilities, strengthening learning outcomes, supporting competitive exam preparation and expanding skilling opportunities, while helping reduce dropout rates and bring more children into mainstream education. Calling teachers the most important link in achieving literacy and social development, he said they cultivate curiosity, values and confidence and bridge India’s knowledge tradition with modern innovation. “A small effort to teach someone to read and write can open new doors of knowledge, self-confidence and opportunities,” he said, urging a resolve that every child reaches school and every citizen becomes digitally and AI aware.
He described International Literacy Day as an occasion that helps expand knowledge and empower individuals. Yogi also linked literacy to rapid technological change, stressing the need for digital literacy and what he called AI literacy. Chief minister listed govt initiatives including Operation Kayakalp, Mission Prerna, Mukhyamantri Abhyudaya Yojana and skill development programmes.
