Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh and Bihar have formally agreed to expand their bus services, aiming to improve interstate connectivity. This initiative will particularly benefit passengers in border districts, as the states explore new routes to facilitate travel between them.

The meeting reviewed existing bus services on 25 routes covered under the interstate transport agreement between the two states, which came into effect in 2016 and was extended in May 2026. Officials noted that several new highways and road corridors have been developed between the states in recent years and said these would be assessed for inclusion in the interstate bus network. Officials from the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) and Bihar State Road Transport Corporation also participated. The Bihar State Road Transport Corporation proposed introducing services connecting several Bihar districts with different districts of Uttar Pradesh. The two sides agreed to hold a second round of discussions soon, when Bihar will submit detailed route proposals and maps. A meeting between Uttar Pradesh Transport Minister Dayashankar Singh and Bihar Transport Minister Damodar Rawat was held in Lucknow on Monday to discuss the expansion.
