PALAKKAD: Police said the woman and child whose body parts were found in sacks in the Bhavani river a day ago have been identified. Police said cattle herders spotted the sacks and alerted the Pudur police after noticing a strong stench emanating from them, raising their suspicion. Download the TOI App.

The murder suspect is believed to be the woman’s husband, a native of West Bengal, news agency PTI reported.

A senior police officer leading the investigation said that family members of the victims are being contacted for a “full identification” of the remains. He further said the woman’s missing husband is suspected to be the culprit, and a team has been sent to trace and arrest him.

“The investigation is going on,” he added. The body parts of the woman and child were found stuffed in two sacks abandoned on a dried-up portion of the Bhavani river near Cherakadav in Agali on Sunday.
