Two arrested with 1,200 prescription tablets in Tirupur

COIMBATORE: The Anti-Narcotic Task Force (ANTF) on Tuesday intercepted two men on a train at Tirupur railway station and seized 1,250 narcotic tablets and 2.5 kg of ganja from them. The arrested have been identified as S Sanjay, 22 of Kavundampalayam and K Sridhar, 24 of Kamarajapuram in Coimbatore. The operation follows a prior raid on Aug 26, where police seized 1,150 narcotic tablets and arrested seven individuals, including history-sheeter Jagath Hari, in the Peelamedu police limits. Around 5.30am on Tuesday, a special police team intercepted the suspects aboard a train at Tirupur railway station. A search led to the recovery of 1,250 contraband tablets and ganja from their possession.

Interrogations revealed that two men, identified as Sanjay and Sridhar, were travelling interstate to procure bulk quantities of banned pills and sell them here. Further investigations were under way to dismantle the supply network, police said. Acting on intelligence, police kept the duo under close surveillance and tracked them travelling to Pune to acquire a fresh consignment. Both were remanded in judicial custody. Download the TOI App.
