Maharashtra state minority commission chairman Pyare Khan addresses authorities in Nashik

Speaking at a press conference after an administrative review in Nashik, Khan said he had received complaints about threats being issued to minority community vendors over participation in the Kumbh Mela. Officials cannot act against the Constitution and must take strict action against those indulging in such practices,” Khan said. Taking aim at those demanding curbs or identity checks on vendors, he said some anti-social elements were seeking “cheap publicity” and damaging the image of the Hindu community. By doing this, they are only defaming Hindus globally,” he said. Sharing details of his visit to Nashik Central Jail, Khan said he had received a representation from the family of gangster Abu Salem claiming his sentence had effectively been completed under the terms of India’s extradition treaty with Portugal.
