Attapadi double murder accused Provat Das was arrested from West Bengal

The accused has been identified as Provat Das, 36, a native of West Bengal. The deceased have been identified as Pranitha, 25, and her daughter Johitha, 4, both natives of West Bengal. On knowing that Das had disappeared from Attapadi, police launched a search outside Kerala.

He allegedly confessed to killing a woman and her four-year-old daughter but told investigators that the woman was not his wife and the child was not his daughter. Police said Das admitted to the killings during questioning but claimed that they were not his wife and daughter. He allegedly told investigators that he had known Pranitha for only around two months.

Police had initially suspected that Das had killed his partner and her child before fleeing Kerala . The probe is being carried out by a special investigation team headed by Agali DSP R Ashok. A three-member team led by Agali sub-inspector H Harshad travelled to West Bengal after investigators traced Das’s movements following the murders. The team apprehended him with the assistance of local police. The postmortem examination indicated that Pranitha suffered a fatal injury to the head, while Johitha was strangled. Police suspect that their bodies were subsequently dismembered and dumped in the river.

Palakkad : The prime accused in the Attapadi double murder case was arrested from West Bengal by Agali police on Tuesday.

The investigation team is now questioning Das to establish the motive, exact location and sequence of the killings, and whether anyone else helped him dispose of the bodies.
