Lucknow: A 57-year-old sub-inspector was killed after a speeding truck ran him over while he was on Dol Mela duty in Kushinagar district on Monday night, police said. The incident occurred near Saraswati Chowk on the Padrauna bypass, where sub-inspector Bhavani Pandey, posted at Sevarahi police station, had been deployed to handle security and traffic arrangements for the fair.
Family members said his 81-year-old father, Heeralal, had not yet been informed.
Police said Pandey was on duty when the truck struck him and ran over him, killing him on the spot. The driver has been taken into custody and is being questioned, police said, adding that further action would follow based on investigation findings and evidence collected. After receiving information, station house officer Anil Singh reached the location with a police team. The body was sent for post-mortem examination after completion of procedural formalities. An FIR has been registered against the truck driver on the basis of a complaint filed by Pandey’s son, Abhishek. Pandey was a resident of Nathwapur village under Sonha police station in Basti district. His death triggered grief in his native village. His wife Kamlesh, sons Abhishek and Akhilesh, and younger brother Kali Prasad Pandey left for Kushinagar.
