A 26-year-old woman constable tragically lost her life in Prayagraj on Tuesday under unclear circumstances. The incident occurred at the Mahila Thana in Kaushambi when her service weapon, an INSAS rifle, discharged unexpectedly, according to police reports. Authorities are currently investigating the situation to determine the exact cause of the incident.
The incident took place at around 10:21 am when cops posted at Mahila Thana heard a gunshot and rushed to the spot near the thana gate where the woman constable was found bleeding. A woman constable sustained critical injuries during her guard duty when she was shot in the neck. The incident occurred in Manjhanpur, where she was immediately transported to the district hospital. Unfortunately, doctors pronounced her dead upon arrival. A senior officer confirmed that the bullet penetrated her neck, leading to her fatal injuries.
The deceased, identified as Priyanka Yadav , a 2025-batch constable, was a resident of village Siddiqui (Dulharpur), Ghazipur district. Senior cops are probing whether it was an alleged suicide case or the service weapon went off accidentally. This was her first posting after completing her training.
