Varanasi: A Bhelupur resident has been arrested for allegedly duping a person of Rs 6 lakh on the promise of securing him an assistant professor’s post at BHU. The accused allegedly handed over a fake appointment letter after receiving the money.
Sharma, 32, a resident of Sarainandan, Bhelupur, was presently living at Anand Nagar, Kandwa, Chitaipur. Sharma allegedly assured the complainant that he could secure an assistant professor’s post at Banaras Hindu University and collected about Rs 6 lakh for the purpose, according to police.
Sigra police station in charge Shivakant Mishra said the accused, Chandramani Sharma, was arrested from his office on Sonia Road following a tip-off. Further legal proceedings against him are underway, police said. A case of cheating, forgery and use of forged documents had already been registered against him at Sigra police station. To win the complainant’s confidence, he allegedly handed over a fabricated appointment letter.
