Gudamba police in Lucknow have arrested 27-year-old Ajay Rawat, a resident of Rasulpur in Jankipuram. He is accused of raping a woman under the pretense of marriage. Following the incident, the victim reported that Rawat threatened and harassed her. The arrest occurred on Sitapur Road as police acted on the complaint lodged by the victim.
Police said the woman lodged a complaint on Sept 5, following which an FIR was registered under Sections 69, 352, 115(2) and 351(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with Section 67A of the IT Act. Ajay allegedly established a physical relationship with the woman after assuring her of marriage, according to the complaint. When she later pressed him to fulfil the promise, he allegedly assaulted and abused her, threatened to kill her and warned her that he would circulate her obscene photographs online.
