Andrew and Tristan Tate have been denied bail in the US as they fight extradition to Britain over rape and other charges
Andrew Tate, 39, and Tristan Tate, 38, were arrested in Miami on July 18 after Britain sought their extradition. Britain has until September 16 to submit its full extradition request to the US State Department, according to US court records.
They said the Tates could pose a danger to the community and could attempt to flee. Lawyers said the brothers’ “extraordinary public visibility” would make it difficult for them to flee and argued that they had complied with court proceedings in Romania. Magistrate Judge Lauren Louis denied the brothers’ request for release from a Miami jail following a hearing last month in federal court. They face charges including rape, assault and facilitating trafficking for sexual exploitation. The brothers, who hold both US and British citizenship, have denied any wrongdoing. US prosecutors argued that the brothers should remain in custody, citing the presumption of detention in international extradition cases. The defence rejected the arguments for continued detention. The extradition process could take months.
