Madurai: The directorate of vigilance and anti-corruption registered a case against eight people, including a regional transport officer, after allegedly seizing ₹1.8 lakh in unaccounted cash from the Madurai South RTO office. Acting on the complaints, a vigilance team conducted a surprise inspection at the office in Nagamalai Pudukottai on September 2. Officials allegedly seized ₹1.8 lakh during the raid, including ₹19,800 from the room of regional transport officer Karthikeyan and ₹1,500 from motor vehicle inspector Selvam.
DVAC sources said they received complaints that officials collected bribes through brokers from people seeking driving licences and vehicle-related clearances. Cash was also allegedly recovered from data-entry operator Sivasubramanian and five brokers identified as Kani, Mareeskumar, Muthukumar, Thangadurai and Saroja.
