Apple has entered the foldable smartphone market with the iPhone Duo. The two phones use a passport-style folding design, but they differ in price, display size, cameras, processors, battery capacity and software.
Display Specifications of the iPhone Duo
The iPhone Duo features a 7.6-inch inner display when unfolded and a 5.4-inch outer display when folded. Both screens share the same aspect ratio, facilitating seamless content scaling between them. Apple has incorporated a nano-texture finish on the inner display to minimize glare. Additionally, both displays support ProMotion technology, Always On functionality, and can achieve up to 3,000 nits of peak brightness in outdoor conditions.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 has a 7.6-inch main display and a 5.5-inch cover display. The main display has a 4:3 aspect ratio, while the cover screen uses a 10:16 aspect ratio. While Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8 weighs 201 grams. It measures 4.5mm when unfolded and 9.7mm when folded.
Apple says the phone is IP68 rated for splash, water and dust resistance. Samsung uses Dynamic AMOLED 2X panels with a 120Hz refresh rate. Samsung also uses a titanium layer beneath the display and an Armor FlexHinge.
The iPhone Duo is powered by Apple’s A20 Pro chip, which is also used in the iPhone 18 Pro models. Apple says the chip uses a 2nm process and has a 6-core CPU, a 7-core GPU and a dual 16-core Neural Engine. Apple says the iPhone Duo can deliver up to 35% better sustained performance than the iPhone 17 Pro. The A20 Pro also has 50% more unified memory bandwidth than the previous generation. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 uses the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy.
Samsung says the chip combines CPU, GPU and NPU hardware designed for performance and AI features. Apple’s iPhone Duo has a 48MP Fusion Main camera with optical-quality 2x zoom and a 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide camera. The main camera supports up to 48MP photos and 4K video recording at 120fps in Dolby Vision. The phone also has a Center Stage front camera and a FaceTime camera under the inner display.
