With bridal makeup, all the attention is usually paid to the eyes, the base, and the general appearance. In my opinion, however, lipstick should be given just as much consideration since it is one of the first things noticed when the makeup is finished, and it can make a big difference to how the bride feels. There is not one single shade that is considered ‘bridal’ lipstick. Each bride has her own style. Women who have worn red lipstick for years feel most at ease with it, whereas other women would prefer to wear a soft pink or nude on their wedding day.
It would also be a good idea to take the lipstick with you on the day of the wedding. Above all, you shouldn’t feel obliged to go with the option that everybody else is opting for. The idea of bridal beauty has changed considerably, and now brides tend to feel at ease in personalising their makeup and in choosing colours that match their own style. You could choose a classic red, a nude colour that is your favourite, a pink that you’ve been wearing for years, or one that you come across during your makeup trials. There isn’t such a thing as a correct or incorrect choice. The correct shade is the one that, when you see it in your wedding photographs, still makes you feel that it was truly you. Because it is one of those traditional bridal shades, it isn’t a good idea to select a colour simply. For better understanding, we approached Snigdha Suman, GM – Marketing & Business Development, Avon, who explained, “I always advise women to begin with a colour that they already love wearing when it comes to choosing a bridal lip. It isn’t necessary to match your lipstick to your lehenga or saree. Rather, you should look at the general colours. A traditional red outfit can look very nice with a warm red lipstick, while pink or pastel outfits can be very well matched with rosy pinks and more delicate shades. With an outfit that contains a lot of gold, warmer nude and brown-pink tones are also worth considering. (Image Credits: Pinterest) Yet colour is only one factor in the decision. A wedding day can quite easily last for ten hours, particularly if there is more than one ceremony. There will be food, photographs, conversations, dancing and a lot of occasions when you’ll want to reapply your lipstick without having to spend a great deal of time in front of a mirror. One should try the lipstick shade for a few hours, have a meal while wearing it, take some photographs, and then see how you feel after a while rather than making your judgement about it until you first apply it.
