New Delhi: Delhi Congress has raised questions over electoral transparency, due process and voters’ rights, citing the deletion of lakhs of names, many even before the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process started in the city.
Sharing constituency-wise details of voter deletions during the exercise, DPCC functionary and former vice president Chattar Singh Thursday questioned why enumeration forms were distributed to only 1.45 crore voters when 1.56 crore voters were enrolled for the 2025 Delhi assembly elections. “About 11 lakh voters have no mention in the exercise.
Their names were deleted even before the SIR began in Delhi,” Singh said. “It is difficult to understand how, within just one year of the elections, there has been such a drastic decline in the number of voters, running into lakhs,” Singh said. He added that even in a large state such as Maharashtra, only about nine lakh voters had fallen into such categories.
Responding to the allegations, an official from the Chief Electoral Office, Delhi, said during the pre-SIR mapping exercise, booth-level officers (BLOs) identified cases where people had migrated without changing the address on their voter cards, as well as cases involving deceased electors. There is no interference involved in the exercise at any level, and all the data collection is being done as per the reports submitted by BLOs,” the official said. “There were several circumstances in which it was difficult to ascertain the identity of people.
