In the past year, Ahmedabad and Surat reported a combined total of 30,859 incidents of various crimes. These include theft, robbery, rape, murder, molestation, kidnapping, extortion, violations of prohibition laws, gambling offenses, and cyber fraud. This data was presented by the Gujarat government during a recent session of the state assembly.
Surat Police Report Significant Crime Statistics and Ongoing Investigations
As of July 31, Surat police have recorded a total of 8,556 cases of prohibition, alongside 1,275 thefts, 1,137 gambling incidents, and 333 cyberfraud cases. The city, known as the Diamond City, has also seen serious crimes, including 331 cases of rape, 297 kidnappings, 134 molestations, 115 murders, 108 extortions, and 54 robberies.
In response to these incidents, police have made 38,877 arrests, with 725 suspects still at large. To locate these absconding individuals, law enforcement is utilizing various methods, including surveillance of their associates and relatives, as well as mobile tracking and informant tips.
For cases related to cyberfraud, investigators are analyzing bank Know Your Customer (KYC) details, account statements, transaction histories, mobile data, and IP addresses. In instances where suspects are believed to be outside Gujarat, police teams have been deployed to other states, collaborating with local authorities. Additionally, Look Out Circulars have been issued for individuals who have fled the country.
