Madurai: Madurai city police have announced extensive traffic diversions, parking arrangements and movement restrictions ahead of the consecration ceremony of the Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple, scheduled to be held on September 17. All vehicle movement and parking will be prohibited in the Chithirai, Avani Moola and Masi streets surrounding the temple from 10pm on September 16 until the conclusion of the ceremony on September 17, according to the police.
Police said these corridors would ensure uninterrupted access during any medical or fire emergency. The entire temple precinct will function as a zero parking zone, and only pedestrians will be allowed access to these streets. Police have earmarked multiple temporary parking facilities for devotees arriving from various districts. Vehicles coming from Sivaganga, Trichy and Ramanathapuram districts will be guided to designated parking lots along the Vaigai South Bank Road. Visitors from Virudhunagar, Thirumangalam, Dindigul and Theni districts will also be accommodated at identified parking locations across the city. Special sterile corridors have been created for emergency services. Vehicles and pedestrians will not be allowed on identified emergency routes reserved exclusively for ambulances and fire service vehicles. Police appealed to devotees, traders and motorists to cooperate with the temporary traffic regulations to ensure the smooth and safe conduct of the consecration.
