1 more accused held in fake freedom fighter certificate racket

The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Varanasi: Bhadohi police on Wednesday arrested an eighth accused in connection with an alleged interstate racket that prepared fake freedom fighter dependent certificates, which were allegedly used to secure MBBS admissions and govt jobs.

ASP Shubham Agarwal said the case was registered at Gyanpur police station following a complaint lodged by Shahid Ali on Sept 20, 2025. Police said forged freedom fighter dependent certificates were also allegedly used during 2023 police recruitment process.

Police said Dubey’s name surfaced during investigation, following which he was arrested from the Jigna area of Mirzapur. Police also seized a mobile phone and Rs700 cash from the accused identified as Nitish Kumar Dubey, a resident of Baridubey village under Jigna police station in Mirzapur district. The complainant had alleged that admissions to govt medical colleges were being secured under the freedom fighter dependent quota using forged certificates. During questioning, Nitish allegedly admitted that the gang prepared forged certificates that were used to obtain MBBS admissions and secure recruitment in govt jobs.

Earlier, police arrested another member of the inter-state gang, Shubham Singh and mastermind Sanjay Dubey.
