One of the accused suffered bullet injury in the leg during exchange of fire and was admitted to hospotal. Varanasi: Katra kotwali police in Mirzapur district arrested two chain snatchers after an encounter near Natwa area early morning on Thursday.
The arrested duo confessed to snatching a chain from an elderly woman near Natwa Tri junction on Sept 1.
Providing detail of the action, Mirzapur’s ASP Nitesh Singh said that on a tip-off about movement of criminals involved in a recent chain snatching incident, Katra Kotwali police started checking vehicles at Janhvi Tri junction early morning, when two youths on a motorcycle were signalled to stop. The police also seized a stolen chain, two country-made pistols and cartridges from them. The riders, however, sped towards Natwa via Dudhnath Tiraha. After being surrounded by police, they opened fire to evade arrest. After recovering a pistol, cartridges, motorcycle and a looted gold chain, police rushed Saddam to hospital.
