Nagpur: The Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) has made it clear that reports blaming its joint secretary and others in the alleged leak of marks of the state excise sub-inspector examination are false.
The complaint was handed to Shire, who submitted his inquiry report on April 3, stating he had spoken to Inspector Anil Patil of crime branch, Navi Mumbai, who had earlier looked into the matter. After this finding, the Nagpur police commissioner wrote to MPSC on September 7, stating that inspector Shire had mistakenly pointed towards the joint secretary, MPSC.
Senior police officers said departmental proceedings have begun against Shire. “MPSC’s clarification has now put the focus back on excise department officers named in the recorded conversation, while the police examines how the error entered Shire’s report,” said a senior official associated with the probe. An aspirant, Ravindra Ingole, and other candidates went to the deputy commissioner of police, crime branch, Nagpur, and complained that confidential documents related to MPSC exam marks had been leaked. Shire wrote that Patil named the joint secretary of MPSC and others responsible for the leak. Later, the assistant commissioner of police, crime branch, Nagpur, checked the file. Officers also listened to audio recordings of the phone talk between Shire and Patil. The recording did not mention the joint secretary of MPSC. In the call, Patil named the joint commissioner and other officers of the state excise department. Instead, the correct names were joint commissioner and other officers of the excise department. On the basis of this letter, deputy secretary, policy and amendment of MPSC, R P Otari, issued a public clarification from Navi Mumbai. He stated any news blaming MPSC officers in this matter is untrue. The inquiry will find out why wrong information was put on official record and whether it amounts to misconduct. The original complaint on leak of marks documents is still on record and has not been closed.
