Six individuals, including three women, were arrested by Andheri police for a fake raid.
Andheri police have arrested 10 people in connection with the July 17 incident, including two serving I-T officials. Police said the operation was masterminded by former company driver Santosh Khopatkar, 37, who was sacked about three months before the alleged raid and wanted revenge against his former employer. Police registered an FIR on September 4 following a complaint by company owner Rajkumar Kandasami. The two I-T officials arrested in the case are inspector Sureshkumar Mishra, 57, posted at the Piramal Chamber office in Lalbaug, and tax assistant Sunil Gore, 59, posted at the Kautilya Bhavan office in BKC. Police said Mishra and Gore had allegedly conducted a similar raid on a company in Manpada and demanded Rs 65 lakh. Those arrested earlier in the Chakala case include Khopatkar, Vinay More, 37, Prem Sabnani, 50, Pragnya M, Reshma Shyamrao Warang, 41, and Shabina Shaikh, 48.
Two men in plain clothes later approached Kandasami and his wife near their home, introduced themselves as I-T officials and displayed an identity card. Police said their investigation revealed that Khopatkar had provided the tip-off about the company.
Kandasami told police that his employees called him saying I-T officials had raided the office. The fake raid was conducted at Two M Ophthotronics Pvt Ltd in Sahar Cargo Estate, Chakala. He had allegedly approached the I-T officials for help in raiding his former employer after being sacked.
