Over 600 Parbhani Municipal Corporation employees continue their strike for unpaid salaries.
CHHATRAPATI SAMBHAJINAGAR: Civic services in Parbhani have been severely affected as the strike by over 600 municipal corporation employees over salaries, pending for four-five months, entered the 30th day on Thursday. Employees’ leader Abhijeet Kulkarni said the corporation’s monthly GST compensation grant, currently pegged at Rs 2.7 crore, must be raised to Rs 4 crore. He also demanded immediate release of pending arrears worth Rs 85 crore.

Several Parbhani Municipal Corporation staffers said bounced loan EMIs, mounting debts and falling Cibil scores had pushed many families into financial distress. Many employees are struggling to pay school fees for their children and medical expenses of elderly parents,” one of the employees said. Parbhani guardian minister and minister of state for public health Meghna Sakore-Bordikar said she had escalated the matter to CM Devendra Fadnavis. The CM is expected to intervene soon,” she said. We applied for a domicile certificate, but the authorities concerned asked for the birth certificate issued by the municipal corporation,” he said. Though the issue has been raised repeatedly in the state legislature, employees said no concrete relief had materialised so far.
“Our household budgets have collapsed. The agitation has disrupted several essential civic functions, including sanitation, water supply, tax collection and public health services. “Parbhani and a few other municipal corporations are facing a severe financial crisis. “My son needs a passport to pursue higher studies abroad.
