A man was arrested for impersonating a PMO official at Jio World Plaza.

MUMBAI: A 24-year-old man arrested for allegedly entering Jio World Plaza in Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) with a private security guard carrying a firearm while posing as a Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) official had been creating fake PMO documents using ChatGPT since 2025 to boost his self-esteem and impress people around him, police told a court. The accused, Rohan Parikh, and 49-year-old Dilip Kunde were remanded to 14-day judicial custody by a magistrate court on Friday after being produced at the end of their police custody. Parikh had been creating the fake PMO documents since 2025, according to police.

Police said a laptop and hard disk were seized during a search of Parikh’s residence. During interrogation, Parikh initially gave vague replies but later allegedly admitted to preparing the documents himself using AI tools, police said. He allegedly told investigators that he wanted to convince his family that he was associated with a worthy cause and working for the PMO.

Documents purportedly belonging to the PMO were also recovered from the house. Police had sought an additional four days of custody, citing the seriousness of the offence and the need to investigate whether the documents had been used by the accused elsewhere. Hence, further police custody was not required, he submitted.
