Driver booked for endangering children with reckless driving

The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Udupi: A case has been registered against a pick-up truck driver for reckless driving and violating permit rules, after a video surfaced on social media, showing him transporting 8 to 10 children standing in the back of the vehicle.

The incident occurred on Thursday, at approximately 7.30pm. The vehicle was traveling from Mangaluru towards Udupi along NH-66 near the Katapady underpass, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Kaup police station. Taking cognisance of the circulating video, Kaup police registered a case on Friday under Sections 281 and 125 of the BNS, Section 66 read with 192(A) and Section 100 read with 177 of the IMV Act.

The driver was operating the vehicle in a rash and negligent manner, posing a severe threat to human life, according to the viral footage. Police have seized the vehicle involved in the incident, and further investigation is under way. Download the TOI App.
