LUCKNOW: The Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Parishad Abhiyanta Sangh has issued a 15-point charter seeking better electricity services for consumers and stronger financial and technical management of power utilities. The charter, issued on September 2, focuses on issues affecting ordinary consumers, including reliable power supply, correct billing, faster complaint resolution and timely release of new connections.
At the same time, utilities must reduce electricity theft and technical losses, improve revenue collection and maintain strict standards in the purchase and use of electrical equipment,” said Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Parishad Abhiyanta Sangh general secretary Jitendra Singh Gurjar. The association said safety rules should be strictly followed to prevent accidents involving employees, consumers and the general public. The engineers’ body has called for regular maintenance of power lines, transformers and other equipment to reduce breakdowns. It has also stressed the need to replace old equipment and use modern technology to improve the quality of electricity supply. The charter seeks accurate electricity bills based on actual consumption. It recommends effective use of smart meters, digital systems and transparent billing procedures to reduce errors and consumer complaints. The association has also urged officials to ensure applications submitted through the Nivesh Mitra and Jhatpat portals for new connections are processed transparently and within the prescribed time limit. It has called for quick restoration of supply during faults and better systems to reduce transformer damage. The charter recommends regular inspections, proper load management and improved monitoring of electricity infrastructure. “Reliable power supply, correct billing and quick resolution of consumer complaints must remain the central priorities of every power utility. The charter also calls for a professional work culture in power corporations, regular training for engineers and better use of experienced personnel to guide younger engineers. Electrical safety has been given special emphasis. The engineers’ body has also sought adequate power generation and a stronger transmission network to reduce overloading, tripping and disruptions.
