6 named in FIR for remarriage to avail UP govt scheme benefits

Pilibhit : Police registered an FIR against six people in Pilibhit district for allegedly arranging the second marriage of a 32-year-old man under UP govt’s Mukhyamantri Samuhik Vivah Yojana while his first marriage was still legally intact, police said on Saturday.

The FIR was registered on Friday evening on a complaint by the man’s first wife, Geeta Devi , 27, a resident of Mandaria village under Neoria police station. She told police that she married Arvind Kumar , a resident of Gulariya village in Bareilly district, on April 24, 2021, and alleged that Kumar and his family subjected her to cruelty for additional dowry. Neoria SHO Digambar Singh said police registered the FIR against Kumar, his parents Jograj and Sukhdeyi Devi, Suman and her parents, Indra Pal and Omwati Devi, under BNS sections 318(4) (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) and 82(1) (marrying again during lifetime of husband or wife). Pilibhit chief development officer Satish Prasad Mishra said the administration would seek recovery of Rs 1 lakh from Kumar after police filed a chargesheet.
