New Delhi : Delhi Police apprehended two truck drivers in connection with the death of an 18-year-old youth who was allegedly beaten by them on suspicion of stealing cables from trucks in northwest Delhi’s Bhalswa Dairy area, police said.
In a statement, police said he was caught along with four others by truck drivers while they were attempting to steal cables or other articles from trucks around 7 pm on Aug 29. Kumar was taken to Burari Hospital by his family on Aug 30. Police said a PCR call had also been made on Aug 30 by Kumar’s brother.
After the death was reported, An FIR was registered.
Police said no vital or grievous injury was found and he was discharged after treatment. “He returned to the hospital on Sept 9 complaining of breathlessness and was referred to BJRM Hospital and subsequently to Rajan Babu TB Hospital, where he died during the night of Sept 9-10,” police said. A video of the incident went viral on social media, showing the accused allegedly beating a man who had been tied up and abusing him. The deceased was identified as Ram Kumar , who lived in Kalandar Colony. However, the family did not seek legal action at the time. Two accused, Muntiyaz and Naeem were arrested. Efforts are underway to trace the remaining accused.
