New Delhi: Over 41 tonnes of old clothes have been collected at ten Arpan Centres set up at Delhi Metro stations for recycling and upcycling for sale.
As of Aug 31, 3,940 people had deposited 41,181.5 kg of clothes at these centres. Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital recorded the highest collection at 9,861.4 kg, followed by Shalimar Bagh at 9,761 kg. Punjabi Bagh West and Shahdara collected 6,534.9 kg and 6,386 kg, respectively. Around 4,266 kg of the collected material has been earmarked for reuse or upcycling, while 29,424 kg has been sent for recycling. These products have together recorded sales of Rs 27,036 . Ten more centres have been proposed at Model Town, INA, IP Extension, Paschim Vihar West, Rajendra Place, Janakpuri West, Rajouri Garden, Greater Kailash, Dwarka Sector 10 and Chhatarpur metro stations. The new centres are proposed to open in Jan 2027.

Chief minister Rekha Gupta said the centres offer a practical solution for reusing old clothes. The clothes are being made into rugs, bags, pouches and folders. The upcycled goods made by self-help groups are also being displayed at the centres. Download the TOI App.
