A 24-year-old man reportedly died by suicide in the bathroom of ward number 15 at the Regional Mental Hospital in Mankapur, Nagpur, during the early hours of Saturday. The individual was receiving treatment at the facility at the time of the incident. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding this tragic event, as it raises concerns about patient safety and mental health care practices within the institution.
Patient’s Death Under Investigation Following Hospital Admission
A long-term patient was declared dead after being transferred to Mayo Hospital, following a series of treatments and readmissions due to deteriorating health. According to Mankapur police, an initial inquiry indicates no foul play in the incident.
The duty medical officer at ward 15 promptly notified hospital authorities upon the patient’s passing. Subsequently, the medical superintendent informed the senior police inspector at Mankapur police station.
The hospital has requested that police take custody of the body for an autopsy before it is returned to the family.
Patient’s Hospital Admissions and Family Cooperation Issues
The patient has been admitted to the hospital multiple times, specifically on May 1, 2024, July 20, 2024, and October 16, 2025. During these admissions, hospital officials noted that the family did not consistently cooperate with the treatment process. Despite these challenges, hospital staff continued to provide necessary care to the patient.
Hospital records show the deceased was admitted to Regional Mental Hospital on March 28 this year by his mother following an order issued by a court in Mouda.
Police said the matter is under investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the death. Based on information received from the hospital, Mankapur police have registered an accidental death case.
