The violence unfolded in multiple stages near the residential pockets along Cossipore Road and K C Road. Armed with sticks, rods, and other weapons, they began damaging vehicles. A counter-complaint, filed by a local named in the first FIR, said the violence started during an ambush near the market area. The victim was cornered and beaten with sticks, according to this account.
