Lucknow: Two men, wanted in connection with the murder of a 25-year-old man in Deoria, were arrested in the early hours of Sunday, with one of the accused sustaining a gunshot injury during a police encounter after allegedly snatching a sub-inspector’s revolver and opening fire at the police team.
The arrested accused have been identified as China Ansari (36) and Ambuj alias Ashish Vishwakarma (23), both residents of Jaiprakash Nagar (Shivdhariya) under Bhaluani police station limits in Deoria district. The arrests came two days after Manish alias Monu Singh (25) was stabbed to death late Friday night. While the team was returning to the station, a nilgai suddenly appeared on the road, forcing the driver to swerve and causing the vehicle to veer off the roadway, according to police. The incident sparked a police crackdown and led to the suspension of three police personnel for alleged negligence. As officers attempted to push the vehicle back onto the road, Ansari allegedly tried to escape, snatched a sub-inspector’s revolver and opened fire. Police retaliated in self-defence and Ansari was hit by a bullet in his right leg. He was admitted to hospital and is stated to be out of danger. Meanwhile, police teams are continuing efforts to arrest the two remaining accused, Jaikishun Yadav and Nagesh Yadav, who remain at large. The murder case has also resulted in the suspension of Bhaluani SHO Rakesh Rai, Sub-Inspector Jyoti and beat constable Vinay Ojha over alleged lapses in handling the matter. Download the TOI App.
He subsequently led investigators to Sonadi Road, where the weapon was recovered at around 3.30 am. Based on the complaint, Bhaluani police registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and launched a search operation.
The victim was returning home when Ansari, Ambuj Vishwakarma, Jaikishun Yadav and Nagesh Yadav allegedly intercepted him, according to the FIR lodged by Monu’s brother. Police said that during interrogation, Ansari disclosed the location of the knife allegedly used in the murder. The four allegedly surrounded Monu and repeatedly attacked him with a knife before fleeing. The injured man was rushed to hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Ansari and Ambuj were later arrested from Shaheed Chowk.
