NHAI is set to begin excavation for a 750-metre, six-lane underpass at Sadahalli Junction on Ballari Road. The Rs 35-crore project is expected to take about a year to complete. The underpass will be built in phases to minimise disruption to traffic.
The proposed underpass will stretch for 750 metres and have six lanes. The Sadahalli Junction underpass is planned as a 750-metre, six-lane structure. The Rs 35-crore contract has already been awarded to a contractor. More than 1.1 lakh vehicles cross the Sadahalli toll plaza every day, according to NHAI. The Sadahalli Junction is the only traffic signal on the main carriageway along the 22-km stretch between Hebbal and Sadahalli. NHAI plans to complete this phase before Aero India 2027, with cut-and-cover construction scheduled after February.
Traffic diversions will be introduced during construction. The contract for the Sadahalli Junction underpass has been awarded, and the contractor is mobilising manpower and machinery. Barricading work has already begun at the site. Initially, two lanes of the main carriageway will be taken up for excavation. NHAI has received consent from traffic police for diversions during construction. The project is aimed at removing the traffic signal on the main carriageway at Sadahalli Junction. Excavation work for the underpass at Sadahalli Junction is scheduled to begin shortly. Retaining structures will be constructed before excavation begins on two lanes of the main carriageway. Traffic will be managed through diversions as the work progresses. It will be constructed on Ballari Road, the highway connecting Bengaluru with Kempegowda International Airport. The project is expected to be completed in one year. NHAI has begun barricading the site for the proposed underpass at Sadahalli Junction. Manpower and machinery are being mobilised ahead of excavation. The toll plaza is located a short distance from the junction where the underpass is proposed. NHAI is now preparing to construct a six-lane underpass at the junction. The project is expected to take around a year. NHAI plans to construct the Sadahalli Junction underpass in phases. Two lanes of the main carriageway will initially be excavated after retaining structures are put in place. The phased construction is planned to allow traffic movement during the work. Alongside the Sadahalli underpass project, NHAI is carrying out construction work near Yelahanka Air Force Station. The first phase involves building a service road near the air force station.
