His previous Leawood, Kansas, home was burglarized on October 7, 2024, while he was away attending a Chiefs game. The reported fence plans became a talking point among neighbors after concerns emerged that the structure could interfere with views of the lake.
The original proposal included extending the fence all the way toward the beach, according to reports. Bratenahl Mayor Keith Benjamin said the village has experience welcoming high-profile residents while respecting their need for privacy. “We’re used to this in Bratenahl,” Benjamin told The New York Times. “We take pride in being a welcoming community where people can feel connected to their lives and also feel comfortable enjoying their private lives,” Keith Benjamin told News 5.
Travis Kelce ’s return to his Ohio roots has come with an unexpected neighborhood debate. The NFL star recently bought a sprawling lakefront property in Bratenahl, near Cleveland, hoping to have a private retreat close to where he grew up. But plans for a new fence have already raised concerns among nearby residents about their views of Lake Erie. One of its more unusual features is a former Prohibition-era speakeasy. The space has since been converted into a game room, adding another piece of history to the already distinctive property. That portion was later dropped following discussions between the property owners and nearby residents. “Being a welcoming community includes giving people the space to be at home, whether they’re an average resident or the most famous person in the world. “You know, part of being a good neighbor is offering a warm welcome and also giving people the privacy and the space to simply be at home — no matter who lives next door. Kelce has experienced the risks of unwanted attention firsthand. That experience makes the desire for stronger security understandable.
