Meerut: An inter-state and inter-district illegal arms trafficking ring has been busted by Meerut police and four suspects were arrested following a brief encounter near Delhi-Meerut Expressway early Monday morning. One of the accused sustained injuries.

Acting on a tip-off that three Meerut residents and a Delhi man were expected to meet near Delhi-Meerut Expressway underpass in the Antichora-Bahadurpur area to deliver illegal firearms, police teams reached the spot and asked the suspects to surrender. One of them allegedly opened fire at the cops and tried to flee. He was injured after police returned fire. The injured suspect was identified as Mohd Aamir, a resident of Welcome Colony, New Delhi. Police subsequently arrested three other suspects — Shubhe Alvi, Shadan Mansuri and Sajid, all residents of Meerut.
