During the campaign, officials inspected 50 private passenger buses operating in the region. One bus operator was issued a notice for allegedly charging passengers fares above the prescribed rates, while cases were registered against 17 buses for various rule violations. Regional transport officer Sanjeev Bhor said the department would maintain strict surveillance on private passenger transport during Ganeshotsav and take action against violators. Strict action will be taken against any private bus operator found flouting the rules,” he said. The inspection covered vehicle documents, driving licences, adherence to passenger transport norms and fare collection practices. RTO also warned eight travel agents against charging excess fares to prevent financial exploitation of passengers. “Passengers should not be overcharged. With large numbers of people travelling to their native places and other destinations during the festival season, RTO intensified inspections amid concerns that private operators may hike fares to capitalise on increased demand.
