Five arrested
Chennai: A clash over Vinayagar Chathurthi procession in Ramapuram resulted in the murder of a 45-year-old man in the early hours of Tuesday. Police said the deceased Srinivasan , 45, of Venkateshwara Nagar was an MTC driver attached to the Ayyappanthangal MTC bus depot. When the procession from Arulmigu Raja Ganapathi Temple reached 13th Street around 10.30pm, a dispute broke out after one group insisted that the procession should complete its route, while residents of the area opposed it. Around 12.30am, Bhuvanesh and his associates went to the house of Anish on 2nd Main Road and called him downstairs for a confrontation.

Ramapuram police arrested five persons in connection with the case. Police intervened and dispersed the groups. Anish came down with Suresh, Anand, Sanjay and Veera, along with Srinivasan. In the clash, Srinivasan fell unconscious. When he was rushed to a nearby private hospital on a two-wheeler, he was given first-aid and referred to ESI Hospital, K K Nagar, where doctors declared him dead. Download the TOI App.
