Police rushed to the spot and later found that the bag contained a suspected nitrogen gas cylinder used for transporting animal semen, ruling out any security threat. Jhansi : Panic briefly gripped the area outside the residence of the district judge on Tuesday after an unclaimed bag emitting fumes was found lying near the premises.
Police said they received information through UP-112 that a bag had been found in front of the district judge’s residence and smoke-like vapour was emanating from it.
Upon examination, the cylinder was found to be a suspected nitrogen gas cylinder containing animal semen, police said. Police said there was no untoward incident and the situation remained peaceful. SP City Preeti Singh said police are examining CCTV footage from the surrounding area and making inquiries through other channels to identify the owner of the bag and ascertain how it came to be abandoned outside the judicial officer’s residence.
Passersby who noticed the abandoned bag with fumes coming out of it alerted police, fearing a possible threat as it was found just outside the district judge’s residence. A team from Sipri Bazar police station immediately reached the spot and found a cylinder inside the bag, from which the vapour appeared to be escaping. Police safely removed the bag from the area and took it into custody. The cylinder is used to maintain freezing temperatures for semen containers during transportation. Preliminary inquiry suggested that the material may have been transported by someone and that the bag was accidentally left behind.
