Kanpur: A special Pocso court in Etawah on Monday sentenced 28-year-old man to 20 years’ imprisonment for raping his 15-year-old distant relative in 2022.
Special Judge Rakhi Chauhan also imposed a fine of Rs 55,000. The girl, a resident of the Balrai police station area, had left home on Oct 13, 2022, to attend school in Meethepur, Mainpuri, but neither reached school nor returned home.
Police said the girl told a court that he had taken her to Surat and forcibly raped her. Her family searched for her but could not trace her. The family later learnt that she had been speaking to the accused, Mohan alias Brij Mohan Yadav, a distant relative and resident of Badi Siyarpur under Nasirpur police station in Firozabad, on the phone. They alleged that he had lured her away, following which police registered a case. About a week later, Mohan left the girl near her home and fled. Police subsequently arrested Mohan and filed a chargesheet under provisions relating to luring away a minor, rape and the Pocso Act . The court convicted Mohan based on prosecution evidence and witness testimony.
