Police suspect the body is four-day old
Ahmedabad: A 39-year-old migrant labourer, who had approached Shaherkotda police for help after losing his job in Jamnagar , was found hanging inside the police station’s electrical room hours later, police said. The man, identified as Raju Ramnakshatra Jatav, was found hanging from a ceiling fan at around 8.30am on Monday. A PCR van received a call through the police control room at 3.48am on Monday regarding a man, according to police.
Due to the heavy rain and with no place to go, Jatav requested that he be allowed to wait at the police station till the money arrived.
The PCR team reached the spot and found Jatav, who said he had been dismissed from his job. He told police that he was a native of Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh and had been working as a labourer at Moti Khavdi in Jamnagar for around three months. Police said Jatav was visibly tense. Officers let him sit in the waiting area and made an entry in the station diary, police said.
He was on a train back home but got down at Asarwa railway station, from where he contacted the police control room as he was being harassed. He was brought to the police station and counselled by personnel on duty. Police also facilitated a phone call between Jatav and his family in UP who assured him they would transfer money online the next morning for him to return home.
Forensic Examination Conducted in Accidental Death Case
A forensic postmortem was performed by a panel of doctors and recorded on video in the presence of a sub-divisional magistrate as part of the inquest proceedings. Authorities have registered a case of accidental death related to the incident.
