Hyderabad : Vice-President CP Radhakrishnan will attend the Hyderabad Liberation Day celebrations as chief guest at the Secunderabad Parade Grounds on Sept 17 and pay tribute to those who sacrificed their lives in the struggle against the Nizam’s rule, Union Coal and Mines minister G Kishan Reddy said on Monday.
Hyderabad state was liberated on Sept 17, 1948, following the intervention of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, he said. Kishan alleged that both the BRS and Congress govts had hesitated to officially observe Sept 17 as Telangana Liberation Day due to pressure from the MIM and vote-bank politics.
Addressing a BJP Mahila Morcha-led scooter rally from the Bhagyalakshmi Temple at Charminar to the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel statue on the assembly premises, Kishan said Union minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Telangana governor Jishnu Dev Varma, other Union ministers, public representatives and senior officials are also expected to attend the event. A tri-services military parade and performances showcasing Telangana’s traditional cultural art forms will be among the highlights, he said. He said Telangana women fought against the Nizam’s rule and the Razakars using chilli powder and household goods. The Nizam’s army and the Razakars looted people’s property, attacked those who hoisted the national flag and subjected women to torture, according to him.
